Act 6: 2014, Home Sweet Clemson

Representing at the Chicago Fringe Festival again, Wishbone produced Mandy Stertz’s original play, A Play About You and Me. The lovely Erin and Collin were the leads and Laura Baker directed. The play takes place on a Chicago train and explores the stops and starts of one couple’s relationship.

Spoiler Alert: You an see this play at Asheville Fringe Festival this year

Later that year, Wishbone was invited to perform SPANDEX at Clemson University, where the majority of Wishbone Theatre Collective attended undergrad. We felt so honored to come back to our home school and perform. We were so supported by faculty and staff that really cheered for us as we were in school and even still. We have so much gratitude for Clemson University and the wonderful professors in the Performing Arts Department. Without their encouragement and guidance during college, I’m not sure we would have the company that we love so much.

Th ensemble-devised play dealt with what it means to be super in the world today as a young classroom prepares for an assignment and an adult jury disagrees over a death penalty case. It felt inspiring to have conversations afterwards with audiences members because this play can often start thoughtful debate.

After the performance, Wishbone decided on our next devised show - a play about the life of Laura D. Fair. Laurie Jones had come across a version of her story in a book called Shady Ladies and it had all the hallmarks of a Wishbone story - larger than life characters, comedy and tragedy interwoven and an inkling that there was a deeper story lurking under the surface.
